Our Story

 

Fable Kids Handmade is the accumulation of four years of pouring my heart into honing my craft and designing patterns that bring handcrafted, sustainable heirlooms to life for adults and children worldwide.

As a mom of three girls, I began sewing dolls when I couldn’t find dolls that weren’t pink, plastic, or made in China. What started as a need grew into a small business, and one of the best dreams I didn’t know I had.

Those early days and long nights spent at the kitchen table, sewing prototypes and dolls after my children slept have given way to having my own studio and hiring fellow mothers with various talents to help build this business. It’s important to me to make sure that as this business grows I’m able to give opportunities to other Canadian mothers who work hard to support their families as I do.

 

 

All of my doll patterns are original, drafted and perfected by myself. It often takes months of dreaming, long nights of prototypes and a little frustration in the studio to get everything right. I pour a lot of thought into the safety, sustainability, aesthetic and function of each item I produce, whether it's a doll for a young child or one that is destined for a collector. 

We live in a world that needs us to slow down and care about sustainability. Not just for ourselves, but for our children and our grandchildren. That is why supporting earth friendly practices as a textile artist is so crucial to me. From using remnants from fellow small shops, to buying OEKO-Tex, BCI cottons, GOTS certified fabrics, and sourcing thrifted, vintage fabrics. It all matters. I spend hours carefully hand selecting materials with the earth in mind, so that when you buy a doll you can take pride that it's been made with our children's future in mind. 

A large amount of my non-vintage materials are purchased from local farms (wool and yarn), local shops, and Canadian small shops. I truly believe in the benefits of supporting small business and supporting handmade through my personal and business purchases. So please know your investment doesn't end here.
